
Despite a potentially big change in how the city-country hybrid of Hong Kong (well, 'Special Administrative Region') will operate in the distant-future, the present, and near future is a very exciting place to be. Areas like Yau Tong (鲗鱼涌), Central (中環), Wan Chai (灣仔), Causeway Bay (銅鑼灣), and Tsim Sha Tsui (尖沙咀) are known for their lively atmospheres and concentration of tech-savvy agencies and professionals.
Because of its cool mix of East and West influences, you can see why the agencies here are often working with international brands - some only work with these brands and don't work with local companies. I imagine that because of this, there's lots of ideas floating around, with many agency staff probably coming from different countries to work here on those international campaigns.
University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) are known for excellent financial graduates, but not particularly marketing or digitally-focussed graduates, and I have to assume that this is changing.
Hong Kong has lots of digital and marketing conferences, including Web Summit Asia (which is still on my list to attend), Digital Health Asia, and the Martech Summit. I would imagine that the diverse nature of attendees would be
Employees are drawn to Hong Kong's lively nightlife, with spots like Lan Kwai Fong, and the usual museums and historical sites. These help HK's reputation as a dynamic and exciting place to live and work. You'd have to say that it's probably one of the most exciting cities in the world to be working in the creative, marketing, and digital sectors - and because of that, some of the agencies here will be producing amazing work, no doubt.
