Athens is forever going to be the economic and creative place to be in Greece, of that there is no doubt. Koukavios and Makrigianni near the Acropolis have an obvious abundance of inspiring scenery that us creatives love. Parts of Gazi (an old industrial area) and Kolonaki, known for more high-brow and formal businesses, are both increasingly drawing more agencies in, these days. Though often overlooked, MetaksOurgeio displays an eclectic artistic energy and I have no doubt that there are some great agencies there under the radar.
Athens obviously outweighs every other city in the country in terms of being able to offer a better salary, and more stable roles. The local tech pool has grown remarkably in the last decade, with graduates from institutions like the Athens University of Economics and Business and the National Technical University of Athens bringing in a lot of brainpower and ideas. Finding skilled designers, developers and marketing specialists in Athens (and Greece itself) is now much more plausible than just a few years ago.
Athens is gaining recognition as a startup hub, I have noticed. There's the annual ReTech conference which spotlights innovative Greek businesses. Also, finding appropriate office or shared workspaces isn’t a huge issue - a good variety exists in the districts I’ve mentioned. And as seems to be normal in 2025 and beyond, they are full with many digital agency freelancers and startups. This historic city, known worldwide for its ancient history, is steadily writing a new chapter.
It feels different these days. The miserable years have passed for the country, I think, and Athens is taking advantage right now. Athens is currently a good place to find interesting agencies and agency people, I would say.
